Our projects sit between synthetic chemistry, protein engineering, cell biology, and computation. Nobody arrives knowing all four, and we don't expect you to — what matters is that you are willing to learn the ones you don't have. You will have room to take a project in your own direction, and you will be expected to.
We are looking for a postdoc to lead one of our core directions: engineering protein tools that record copper events in living cells, or building copper photocatalysis into designed protein scaffolds using genetically incorporated unnatural amino acids.
You should hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in chemical biology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, computer science or a related field. We are particularly interested in 1) candidates with hands-on experience in protein expression and purification, mass spectrometry or chemoproteomics, unnatural amino acid incorporation, directed evolution, or metalloprotein biochemistry; 2) computational scientists interested in biology. Experience across several of these is welcome but not required.
Fellowship routes
If you are applying for an independent postdoctoral fellowship, please write to us early. These applications take months to prepare and are far stronger when built together with the host lab. Schemes that suit our work include:
We welcome applications from students with a background in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, biological sciences, or computational biology. Projects are available across all three of our research areas, and we try to match projects to what a student actually wants to learn rather than assigning them.
PhD students at NTU are admitted through university scholarship schemes rather than directly by the lab, so applications go through the graduate programme. Please write to us before or alongside your formal application — it helps considerably to have talked first.
We host final-year project students, URECA students, and visiting researchers when we have a project that genuinely fits and someone with time to supervise it properly. We would rather take one student and train them well than several and train none. Do get in touch, and tell us what you are curious about.
How to Apply
Email dan.he[at]ntu.edu.sg with your CV, a short note on what you would want to work on, and when you could start. Postdoctoral applicants, please add contacts for two or three referees.
